Password Protection & User Moderation

   I think that it would be cool to have an improved password protection system on WordPress.

   I would like to see a user registration moderation feature (so that users would not immediately be sent a password after registration, but rather an administrator would have the option of adding the user).

   This (link below) offers a great password protection system for site entry. It protects your entire blog - including feeds. (not images, though) It might interface well with the idea above - please leave comments.

   I think this is a terrific idea as many of us are starting to get lots of spambot registrations.

   I don't care so much about giving me the power of moderating those who register. I'd just like to provide an obstacle that would weed out the bots.

   If only Angsuman's site was running I could actually see that plugin you recommend!

   This should be added to the next version of WordPress. I would like to let users self-register, but I need to be able to moderate them before granting them access. Right now the only way to prevent open access is to manually add the users myself.

   I didn't originally see this as a way to eliminate spambots, but I can see where user moderation would be a good way of doing that. I was thinking that this would just help the user who wanted to have a private blog (Which it still will!) Great ideas!

   What do you [Everyone] think of the addition of a system that does not let unregistered users view the blog at all? Thanks!

   that's already possible with a plugin called 'registered only'. however there's still no way to control/moderate the registration.

   to me this is a no brainer function that should be included in any 'users can registration' web software. i still can't believe wordpress developers haven't included this feature.

   This would indeed be a very nice feature.
   It took me just a couple of hours to implement it on my wordpress implementation, but it's just a "hack" since the signup/login part doesn't seem to be pluggable and a wordpress update will break the functions I have built in, hence a real implementation of this feature in the wordpress core would be great.

   Hmm, not sure. Drupal is great for this sort of thing, and WordPress cannot be all things to all people.

   I've been needing this feature for a very long time. Some potential users are hesitant to contact you so you can register them and if you allow them to register themselves, they'll have full access to at least read your blog without you having the ability to approve them first. Which causes a lot of problems when it comes to privacy. You shouldn't need a combo of plugins to do this, it should be built into WordPress.

    Spambot registrations seem to increasing at a faster rate these days.
