Overview on Dashboard Widget Core?
WP Overview (lite) http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-overview-lite/ is a plugin that check memory limit and load usage on WordPress Dashoard, (on right of the Default Widget Rirgh Now) with less memory consumption, and more others core, server, system, OS, SQL, functions. Is compatible up to version 3.1-alpha and Network MU~LTI-SITE.
Is a "good idea" merge it on WordPress core?

Good idea, for me.
A simple plugin that gives you full control of the main features of WordPress installed on your blog, so you can monitor and control the correct installation and operation.
Why this information is not already included on WP core?
WordPress is one of best CMS.
For next release 3.1 more new features are announced.
For me, more of "IDEAS" is ok to merge on core ...
I try WPO, and use it on Dashboard of my blog, sine one year. For my simple opinion, the new footer memory indicator, on latest release of plugin, is one of the best festures included. Right Now and Overview Widgets on WordPress Dasboard, is fantastic and complete report for any WordPress based blog's ...
I think its plugin job. Why dont you try to keep core simple?

The plugin already exists. It's information that the average user wouldn't use, so unlikely to go into core, following the keep core light principles.

Yes, already exists and is my plugin WP Overview (lite). My plugin not add nothing on the core: is light and read only WordPress and Host Configuration plus Memory Usage. :)
