*Optional* Built-In 'Captcha' Comment Spam Security

It would be great to integrate 'captcha' spam security into the comment box on the front end to stop the endless spam we get. Make it optional so that people who do not like captcha can opt out.

WP should integrate one of 'captcha' generated images of letters and/or numbers that visitors would have to type into a form box for their comment to be submitted.

Even with Akismet and Behavior plugins spambots still can submit comments. When spambots find your site they multiply quickly and it affects your site analytics/statistics and your bandwidth. They get through and waste your time and resources.

Optional 'captcha' comment security should be built in.

    Bad idea.

CAPTCHAs are annoying, and spammers can easily defeat them. If WP comes with a CAPTCHA system by default, it will give the spammers a great opportunity to defeat a single CAPTCHA scheme and gain access to thousands of weblogs. They'll do it in a few days.

I don't really like the Idea of a captcha.

CAPTCHAs are way to inaccessible, especially for coming default with a system, even if it is an option.

Captcha could be optional! So whoever doesn't like may not use it!

However, there are captcha plugins already available which can be installed. So although a good feature, it need not be inbuilt into WP.

Super incredibly bad idea. As Totally said, CAPTCHAs are inaccesible and as mmoncur said they would be easily defeated if released with WP. This will never make it into core. Plugin territory.

Ick, terrible idea. Captchas are bad, aksiment works, use a plug-in if you must.

Captcha = bigoty against those with site issues as well as causing issues for those behind broken proxies like Comcast users.

If you wanted to make everyones CAPTCHA different why not have it as "off" as default and if you turn it on it asks you whether you want to use the standard set of fonts OR your own set.

Hard to beat unique CAPTCHAs and if its not wanted its not there!
