Option For Default Post Visability Status / Post Moderation

There currently exist an option for default category. What about adding an option for default post status? This would come in handy for people posting via email, or from remote sites like Digg, YouTube, etc.

If I post remotely, then the post will not have any tags associated with it, and it may not end up in the correct category. If I set my default post category to "TV Shows" and then "blog this" from digg an item related to tech news it doesn't make much since for that post to show up as a "TV Show". By allowing me to default everything to "hidden" or "private" I would be able to moderate the post prior to it being displayed on my blog.

I like this idea. I've wanted to have a default-private for awhile. Mainly, the reason I'd like to have it set to private by default is for those folks who want things to be "secure" by default, and then open things up as they'd like.

Like amarand I would also like to be able to set the default to private.

If I look in wp-admin/edit-form-advanced.php I see on line 101 that the "Keep this post private" check-box is checked if the PHP function checked($post->post_status, 'private'); returns checked.

How can I make it return checked per default? I could also just delete the function and hard-code checked but I'm not sure if that is such a good idea - I'm quite a newbie...
