Hello folks,
It would be nice to have an opt-in registration option. It would cut off the numbers of people/bots creating fake accounts.
WP would send an opt-in email, confirming the account creation. If no confirmation is sent within x days, the account would be dropped off the database. It would keep everything clean and maintainable.

Excellent idea, i am cleaning out user db with over 8000.
At they very least a times tamp of an accounts last use

A last-used timestamp would indeed prove very useful for pruning unused accounts.

It works this way in WordPress 3.0 running Multi-site. I don't know if it will do it on single site.
