New User Registration Moderation

This feature would allow moderation of new users when 'anyone can register' is enabled. In other words, administrator gets to approve or reject new users before they can access the blog or leave comments. This feature has been requested since WP 1.5.

I second this feature request. It would sure make administering a blog much easier.

And/or integrate a CAPTCHA system into registration.

i disagree with boldygoing. CAPTCHA idea is a separate topic altogether. this isn't to prevent spam, but for the administrator to at leave have some sort of control over user registration. what else is the point of having registration if anybody and everybody can do it?

Add my two thumbs up for this feature. I want to restrict certain pages to registered users (using a plugin), but this is ineffective if I can't moderate who registers. This would add great value to the self-registration feature. This should be part of core WP registration.

The options on Options > General could look like this:

- "Anyone can register"
- "New user registrations must be approved by admin"

The admin would get an email notification telling him to approve or reject the user. The user would get an email saying that their registration will be reviewed by an admin. When admin approves or rejects the registration, the user then gets another email notifying them of their status.

Benjaminha, your solution does not work on multiple WP blogs that I've tried. One of your lines has a missing ' which caused many errors. Regardless your method does not work with the latest version of WP 2.1.3.

Similar to comments, user registrations should also allow you to create blacklists. I'd personally ban all .ru e-mail addresses from registration because they are almost universally spammers.

Actually i found this thread searching for a solution on automated registration. The possibility to moderate new registrations should enable me, to delete automated/spam accounts before they are created. Would prefer that to captchas/challenges.
