More ways to control / crop selected images

As is, WP isn't very nice to our selected images. We haven't access to any cool tools at all :(

I'd like to be able to tell my theme that hey, this image here.. I want it cut like this or that etc. Some images needs to be croppe from the top right. But right now, WP does this for me. And then it always takes the center / center approach. :(

There's two things that should be done.

    Suggestion one:
Extend the functionality of the_post_thumbnail(); so that I can give it a default cropping mode.

There's a plugin that does this (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/thumbgen/), but I think this should be a core function, and not something supplied via a plugin. Why? Well, I'd like some fancy buttons and things in the UI :)

    Suggestion two:
Feed the default cropping function with a ratio according to the defined image size. This way the user can crop the image exactly as the user wants, and the image is still output in the correct size. Epic win! :)

This is a great idea and should really be a core feature so that we don't need to load plugins for standard functionality.
