The problem with WP's archiving is that there isn't a more supple, flexible way to point people to archives. There is no wp_archive_link() function that will gracefully create a single link and the wp_get_archives() function only returns an HTML list... even if you select "output=0"!!!!

Another idea along with this: the archives should be able to accurately reflect you current position in the archives. Meaning: if I want to show a postbypost archive of the next and previous five articles, I should be able to do that using wp_get_archives()
