    Nice, Keldric, nice.

Call me old fashioned but I think it's useful for users of a Content Management System to be able to manage their content effectively.

    @Marko Heijnen

I've seen two plugins that attempt to add folder functionality. However, both use an interface which I find very odd: adding a new page and having do folder views side by side.

For an implementation similar to my mockup, using the real media page, I agree that the lack of hooks will make it difficult to do correctly with a plugin, which I why I posted here. Since media uses the built in (private) table class, changing it would require far more code expertise than I have.

    I now have this: http://i.marko.io/1a/tewhf917z4o8c.png.

In your case you don't need to hack the table class but on top and bottom of it.

No unfortunately you would have to, unless you'd want to put it above the Bulk Actions dropdown, which is part of the table. Your's looks good, though I'd be wary of combining the list of folders and files. If a user has a large number of folders, it would get tricky.

Though on a smaller screen, that might be the best way to go. A best case scenario in my mind would a side panel on large screens, folding into a merged list when page-width falls below a certain point.

For what it's worth, I'd love to see WP add a folder option for the media library. As folks increasingly create WP websites, I think this will be a much-appreciated option. Thanks in advance!

A very strong +1 to the idea of named folders within Media Library. Addition of this capability would make WP all the more powerful as a complete CMS.

If folders are too complex for users, then somebody better take their computers away. Those things have file systems on there!!

But seriously, this is an obvious item that should have been included on day one. Any medium to large site would benefit heavily from this feature.

If there was a "like" button on here for comments I would have just used it.

(please don't introduce a "like" button)

This is my first day of my first site using word press after the hand-off from my designer. The FIRST THING I looked for was a folder or file manager for media files. Glad I found these comments so I at least won't make myself crazy. Sigh.

Screw politeness -- the truth hurts ; ) Only the most evangelical WP fanboyz would argue against the fact that, for large quantities of media, the current WordPress media management is in need of improvement. It is (imho and many others) unfortunately amateurish and clunky. No folders is totally laughable from a UI and UIX viewpoint.

Managing large quantities of images (especially! when having many of the same images at different resolutions) would be *hugely* improved with a folder structure system.

Without that function, WordPress does NOT have a Media File Manager
    -- it's a Media File Junk Drawer !

A media manager with no folders creation function!!! Wha??!!! HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa OMG!! my Stomach hurts!! Please stop, stop!!!! -- This is a joke, right???

    Where are the hidden cameras?
