Make new users' registration emails work if blog is in sub-domain

At present, if your blog is in a sub-domain, the email to a new user with their password and username does not get sent. This is a real pain, and there are a lot of threads about it on the forum. Some users have found a coding work-round but it has to be hard-coded into every installation and is beyond non-technical people. It would be nice if this could be fixed.

Have experienced this problem on my sub domain blogs.

Error: Host does not allow default WP MailFrom:feild to send mail (result of Hosts spam prevention techniques)

    Solution: Mail From plugin -
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/mail-from/
changes Default to an allowed email sender.

This is a bug, not an idea.
