the jquery library is much easier to use than protoype.
I don´t want to list all its advantages here. if you are a developer you´ll soon find out yourself.

    just an example:

i recoded the widgets plugin to make use of jQuery and depending on how many widgets where set in the backoffice interface the code there was reduced 1000 +lines(html and Javascript) and there is no more inline javascript code needed. besides this the html can be much smaller and so when having a lot of widgets the speed of the whole interface is greatly improved.

if someone is interested in this code he can contact me anytime over my blog.

i a agree: since WP uses more and more javascript for ajax and stuff it becomes more important to have a good library to work with.

jquery is the best since it really bringt the separation of function and form into javascript and xhtml!

it also would help plugin-people to base on one single js-libary. otherwise each plugin has to use its own js...

well, wordpress javascripts right now are a Frankenstein-like monster: prototype+scriptaculous and scripts that use them, fat, sack, dbx, colorpicker, tinymce; some cleanup is definitely needed.

I, for instance, prefer mootools over prototype, as it's more concise and modular; the compressed full mootools is 26kB in size (and jQuery is even smaller, 19k, but I haven't used it, so I don't know how it compares to mootools, code examples look similar, though); compare this with the 175k prototype+scriptaculous...

Another interesting js library is Mochikit (much larger, in the packed version it's 110kB in size, still less than prototype+scriptaculous), but I haven't used it, either; I'll omit Dojo because it's a lot larger (very modular, though), and looks too much like Java (too verbose, too buzzword-oriented)

I vote for Jquery, but shouldn't WordPress dev team settle on just one? The sum total of loading in all of these javascript libraries is massive!

I think these should use the Google API as well so that we can take advantage of their CDN for a performance boost.
