Make it faster

A general wordpress pageload depends on loads of plugins and such and in my time with wordpress (approx 6 months now), I have always felt that WP is somewhat sluggish on a medium load website.

Mysql handling is fairly decent from what I can tell from my tests, but parsing the the content is what takes up the bulk of the time. Since I don't want to change the core files, I have reverted to plugins such as wp-cache which work, but are not ideal.

p.s. I know speed is influenced by a million factors, but I'm running a p4 3ghz, 2gb ram, apache 2 machine and even with a default wp install I can't get apache bench to give out more than 5 or 6 requests per second. That = slow.

It's not slow at all for me, but speed improvements are always good.

APC worked great for me. Decreased my blog's load times by 75%.

i find the back-end can be really sluggish. speeding that up would be great.

  5. Using WP-Cache2, my WP powered site can spit out hundreds of requests per second without the load even going above 1.00.

Even without it, my site's still uber fast (v2.1 is a lot faster than 2.0.x). The admin area of my site loads in around 0.3 seconds.

    Config your server better. ;)

There should be a page in the codex which explains how to properly optimize a server for WP.

I can't say no to a speed boost. Perhaps certain "components" of the Write POst screen can be hidden totally by the user. For example, I personally don't use the Discussion box at the Write Post, perhaps I can uncheck an option to show that box. All these things would definately help load the Write Post webpage faster.

SPEED THIS B1TCH UP. I can definatly see where somepeople would have it optimized and some done. Perhaps a good document is in order. Do you have some figures? data of some tests that you ran? anything helpful?, maybe its fast enough, we just are not putting it together the right way.

100% agree, WP should be made much faster. Somebody can say, that 0.25 sec is enough, but it's not, if you use shared server, your page is "wanted", etc.

I was not able to make wp-cache plugin working and actually sth like it (more simple, more understandable, more working) could be automaticly inluded...

A quick analysis of the queries used by WordPress reveals that a lot of them could be consolidated to gather the same information. I'm not sure if joins are slower than multiple queries, but some smart use of them could cut the queries down.

I also laughed at these two queries, issued one after the other:

    SELECT option_value FROM wp2_options WHERE option_name = 'siteurl'
    SELECT option_name, option_value FROM wp2_options WHERE autoload = 'yes'

That's a tad redundant right there.
