Language selection during 1st installation
What about inseting a new step in the installation process where the user can select the localization file (the *.mo file) and automatically the installer puts this file in the appropriate directory and sets the WPLANG constant consequently.
Obviously the user must download the localization file before proceeding to installation.
This is a valid idea, and for me it would be great. But imagine to put mo files for a bunch of languages... The file would be too big IMHO...
Yes indeed, you're right so my idea is to let the user download the .mo file for his language and simply upload it during installation.
AUTOQUOTE:the user must download the localization file before proceeding to installation
Then the installation process will put this file in the right directory (/wp-includes/languages) and set the right constant in the configuration file.
I think this is a very good idea, however, I believe the downloading of the language file should be automated, like with the automatic updater plugin that gets the latest version of WP, where you would just select the language, and the file will be downloaded to the languages directory automatically, that way, WP doe snot include all files on the initial upload, but a list of available languages.
Was that clear enough? I'm not so sure I did a good job explaining my idea :p
Seems like this idea still has merit as installing WordPress in a different language is not automated.
