Ideas

Just one functions.php file

I don't know about other users but I think that having a functions.php in every theme files is a pain.

Everytime I switch themes, I have to update the functions.php file of the theme I'm switching to.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a common functions.php file, something like the old "my-plugins.php" file that we used to have?

    Greetings,

Create a plugin instead of using functions.php for your own customizations if you don't like updating stuff when changing themes.

Without a functions.php file for every theme, there'd be no standard way for themes to create their own functions and hook them appropriately.

Basically what he said. You're missing the point of the functions.php entirely, and anything custom you're writing should just be as a plugin.
