Include "Next Blog" link in self-hosted templates

The main thing that was important to me when I started my blog on the Wp site was the "Next Blog" link. It led me to many interesting blogs that I could never have found (and many I wish I could have skipped, but that's another story), and it led many bloggers to me. I have moved my WP blog to my own website, with all the advantages that entails, but I really miss being able to check out "Next Blog" once in a while, and I miss the people who used to find me that way. I would like it to be a bit more sophisticated, Like Stumble Upon, where I could indicate the kind of blog I am looking for, or more particularly, the kind of blog I am not looking for.

Sounds like plugin functionality to me. Why should this be added to the core?

-1 Where's the next blog list going to come from? Plus knowing Matt and the rest of Automattic, censorship will come into play.

This function only makes sense if we speak about a multiuser blog system (WordPress MU), and not a stand-alone install I guess.

And there are plugins, which can do this.
