    I would like something a bit more modern and up-to-date...

    Having said that, I am currently trying to implement the Mercury editor (http://jejacks0n.github.com/mercury/) which is html5 and totally cool!

  4. The editor does everything a "normal" user requires. I had a hard time getting into the tinyMCE buttons/popups mixed with shortcodes but once you spent some time with it you can extend the editor with the features you require.

    But I agree on some points with tables and messing up the html output by moving and dragging things around within the visual view.

    I have long given up using the visual editor and instead disable it before posting. I only use HTML. But I'll give it a try again if it's been improved recently.

    The visual editor is pretty good. Could be better. We could use some TinyMCE heroes to help it along.

    My strongest caution to everyone: Do not switch between HTML and Visual Mode! If you just have simple content, it's fine. When you get into tables, don't even try it.

    Maybe this is a little too complex, but I would like to see syntax highlighting in the html editor, as well as fixing the visual editor. Oh, and syntax highlighting for the theme editor too, while I'm at it.

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/syntaxhighlighter/ will do it for your posts.

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ultimate-tinymce may help too.

    The problem is doing this via a GUI (like the visual editor) is problematic due to rendering :/ It's best done with the code/HTML editor.

    @aristath

    I am in favor of http://jejacks0n.github.com/mercury/
    Have you started any work on integration?

    IMHO, first thing WordPress should do is make writing "easy". I feel disappointed to see in last 5 years, "writing" itself is not evolved...

  10. Agreed! I still use TinyMCE, without It, with the basic wordpress writing tools It would make It really hard to write a post.

    Even with tinyMCE I find myself spending half the time within the WYSIWYG editor and the other half on the Code tab to correct tinyMCE's bugs.

    Thanks :)
