Improved search quality

There are numerous plugins that does nothing more than improve the quality of the WordPress search. This shouldn't be the job of a plugin. Just a minor improvement. If something is in the header of a post it should be given more weight than if it is in the text body. I'm sure some smart people will be able to come up with a heap of improvement, they are really needed.

Showing only the parts of the post/page where the search-terms appear. And make the search terms bold.

Rate post/pages higher if the search words are placed close together.

Plugins answer the need by adding patterns to the inbuilt MySQL search, so we're not looking at a lot of code overhead. And an in-context excerpt that mimics what we see in Google would be nice.

What about a closer integration between WordPress Search and Google PageRank?

Personally, I would really like to be able to do more complex kinds of searches, as is possible with Google. For example, allow people to search for phrases, search for pages with some words but without others, and use AND and OR operators.

Huvet hit the nail right on the head. If I search for "FIrefly", then posts with the word "Firefly" in the title should display before posts that simply contain the word Firefly in the main body of the text. That would really help a lot.

People shouldn't be forced to use Google search on their pages after all... The built-in search could have options to choose between speed and quality

How about an option to include post tags in the search? That's the only reason I keep using a plugin. Comments would be a nice option, too.
