Ideas

Improve Plugin Performance

If I've installed plugins that allow me to insert a special sequence into the post to make magic happen, the plugin will search for the sequence even if the special sequence isn't embedded in the post. If i have multiple plugins installed that have there own special sequence that you can embed, they too will search for the sequence in the post. These searches are expensive, and they are even more expensive when they are not required in the first place. Provide a mechanism for short circuiting this needless processing. The best approach would be to have this special processing done when the post is saved rather than every time the post is read. This may not be feasible for all types of plugins, those where the output changes every time the post is displayed are likely one class of plugin where this would not work. But it would work for every plugin that I have used.

this idea forum is for ideas for WordPress core. if you have plugin suggestions, probably better to ask in the forum at http://wordpress.org/support/

In order for this suggestion to work, it requires changes to the core. The core and plugins have a symbiotic relationship. Plugins cannot do this without support from the core. I believe this recommendation is in the correct place.

    Not needed.

Since the filter for "do-ing" shortcodes is applied once to the post content during page generation, regardless of how many shortcodes are registered, I think the current system is fine.

Not needed and not useful for a lot of wordpress users.
