Ideas moderation

How about if "Ideas" was community moderated?

By default, new Ideas would be moderated. Until an Idea received some minimum number of votes (5?) from moderators, it would not be displayed to the general public. Moderators would be community members who meet some criteria, for example:

    1. Viewer is logged in
    2. Viewer profile is sufficiently complete
    3. Viewer has been a member for at least 60 days (or some appropriate number)
    4. Viewer has posted at least 3 forum messages in the past

This would practically eliminate the chance of spam getting through.

Also, a "flag as spam" feature to fast-track the elimination of bogus entries would probably help.

Not sure I understand how anyone would vote on an idea if they could see it as the general public... or are you saying that only those who log in can see it?

I am sure any spam posts in Ideas are by logged in users or they couldn't post at all... being a user for 60 days isn't much of a requirement, either.

Flag as spam... THIS IS THE BEST WAY. Craigslist uses it fairly effectively and it allows the entire community to participate.

Or possibly implement a plugin like PressItForMe, that allows posts to be promoted or buried. http://pressitfor.me/ Just a thought

There are a couple of bugs in the forums that keep ideas on the front page even though moderators have closed threads. We're working on fixing these bugs, after which the ideas forum should be much easier to scan.
