Anyone consider the need for an event manager with integrated venue support utilising microformats?

I've got one that I'm about to rerelease for textpattern and am interested in creating a similar version for wordpress.

this idea needs to be more than in consideration and needs to move to production... of course i would have nothing to do with helping to realize that but the demand is there and the time is now!!! yeaahh!!!!

Integrated event calendars would indeed be nice to have. But consider a broader approach, if you should choose to implement it. Events are not a "niche" ting. Actually, the concept is useful in most blogging contexts. Posts usually *are* about single events or dated objects (as well as places and persons). The "publish" date is not what we want to change. I've seen quite a few retrobloggers tinkering with publish dates to get their timelines.

But to create a general purpose past/future event calendar, it should be able to handle approximate and ambiguous dates, as discussed in http://microformats.org/wiki/genealogy-formats:

All event calendar plugins I've seen so far forces you to enter full and valid time and date, maybe even an interval. But in many cases its better to use an approximate date if you haven't got the exact one. (Like, I remember the Tricky concert in Toronto, 1997 - but that's all. Maybe January or February. Let's say 1997, Q1 ...)

Event Calendar standard in Admin and Post section: If it will control the display of "future" events being displayed and not displayed in a list in the sidebar I am for it.

I'd like to add my support for this. I'm currently burning my brains out trying to figure out how best to integrate the two.

The site I'm working on is for a club that has events/activities, and what is needed is a list of upcoming events as well the capacity for the person to click on the event 'title' and read the details (or what happened)

Of course, one could use future posts - but then it wouldn't show up on the main page by default until the actual date of the event. Just found this plugin called 'Future Calendar' so going to see what it can beused for, but an integrated solution would be ideal!

p/s: The difficult part is the site maintenance will be carried out by non-Wordpress savvy people so it needs to be as simple as possible.

    The two ideas vaguely coincide:

I have the exact same requirements as moseymosey above:

The site I'm working on is for a club that has events/activities, and what is needed is a list of upcoming events as well the capacity for the person to click on the event 'title' and read the details (or what happened)...

p/s: The difficult part is the site maintenance will be carried out by non-Wordpress savvy people so it needs to be as simple as possible.

Except in addition, my club manages events using Google calendar, so ideally we would be able to import the events from the google calendar feed.

A build-in Event Calender system would indeed very useful.

I'm looking for an event manager that can list upcoming and/or past events. Also a user should be able to click on any of the events and be taken to a page that has a description of the event, pictures/slide show, time/date, etc. Can anyone direct me to one?
