Easy to Edit Horizonial Menu Bar

I know a lot of themes let you edit the horizonal menu bar under the header, but in the basic wordpress install, it is still a bit daunting for the newbies to re-arrange/edit the navagiation menu.

If it could be a seperate tab to the left in the admin section, maybe called "Navigation", an in it you you could choose the order of the top menu bar, including drops downs manager, if you like.
Also, a spot to tweek the css look of the bar right there, say, rounded tabs, colors, inset, what the links actually say, shadows, etc, etc, but in GUI form for those of us who still find CSS daunting.

  2. What appears in the navigation and how it is styled should be totally dependent on the theme itself IMO. I don't think it is a good idea to bloat WP with everything including the kitchen sink when it makes more sense for it to be part of the theme.

If you look at themes like Thesis by DIYThemes, they have done a wonderful job allowing their users to control what appears in the navigation and how it gets styled. The problem is that most free themes are poorly written. But hey... it's free! You get what you pay for. Personally, I rather pay someone like DIYThemes $85 to get a theme that is very robust, user friendly and SEO friendly right out of the box.

There will be a custom menu function in the admin in version 3.0, but how those menus are displayed will still be up to the theme.
