Drag 'n' drop page re-ordering in Admin

On Manage > Pages, have an option to change page order using AJAX drag'n'drop. Like re-ordering lists in Backpack, or the admin panel options with Custom_Admin_Menu.

This is much easier and more intuitive - especially if you've got a lot of pages - than setting page order using integers. Not least because to set page order you can to go to the page itself, so you can't refer back to the order you've set on other pages if you get confused.

Agree. The integers are not really scalable and don't really fit into the 'WordPress = intuitive editing' idea.

Even without AJAX, but with "move up" "move down" arrows would be better than what we have at the moment....
    Nice Idea

I was just wishing that I had this feature today. Here's an example from the script.aculo.us library.

You all know this has absolutely nothing to do with Asynchronous JavaScript and XML ( AJAX ). Drag and Drop makes use of a JavaScript effects library.

    Good idea though.

I implemented it as my Google Summer of Code project. It actually uses AJAX (or AJAJ, for JSON at the end). You can see a demo at the link bellow:

Additional administration options on the pages Admin panel would be very welcome.

Script.aculo.us does a very nice job with this. If anything similar could be developed as a built-in feature of the WP pack it would be a great move, and a usability improvement - better than manually assigning positions.

A good example of this in action (for those who aren't familiar) is for those of you who have seen or used Basecamp - the ability to filter sort, order, and drag & drop move items in a list (pages and blogroll in particular) would be most helpful. You can also hit up the Script.aculo.us demo page for an example.
