Disable Timestamp Modification fields until "Edit Timestamp" box is selected.

About every time I modify a timestamp and hit "Save", the timestamp does not change. This is because I forgot to select the "Edit Timestamp" checkbox above the Timestamp modification fields.

It would be great if there was an improvement to the user interface to prevent this. For example, gray-out the timestamp field so that the time/date can't be edited (only viewed) until the "Edit Timestamp" box is checked. After checking this box, the fields would become editable in the browser.

You know the problem, why not re-do it?

I think it is fine as it is.

Isn't this forum a request of things to re-do?

I think this is a great Idea! On a site I run, there are about 12 people who post and this issue has come up multiple times.

It would be a great little tweak that would be great.

This feature of the UI has been one of the most annoying to me for years. PLEASE fix it! Either hide the field until the box is checked or just plain detect when a new timestamp has been entered.

I agree. This has smacked me in the forehead more times than I can remember...probably from the smacking of the forehead.

Totally with you on this one. Took me a while to find out what I was doing wrong also and the same goes for the other editor on my blog. Must be simple to fix..

When I was using 1.5 I was almost turned off WP completely by the timestamp update (automatically changing the date/time when I didn't want it changed). With 2.x I'm so glad it doesn't do that. Yes, we sometimes forget to check the box, but I move the timestamp box to the top of the write screen sidebar so that my eyes automatically "tab across" when it loads a draft for editing... I mostly manage not to forget, but I do still agree that it should help us not fork it up :)
