Designate a post as both a post and a page

I have some posts I would like to have be pages however simply copy and pasting them as a page would lose my front page status that I have on my page. Also, if I were to update my page then the post would also update.

    this would be cool.
it would allow a simple blog post of an idea, turn into a page, which can get updated.
this could get really cool with wiki like editing of pages.

This sounds like theme logic, which would be better left to the themes. No change to the core is needed to accomplish this; it is already possible with plugins and with good use of conditionals and template tags.

so it would be possible to make it so I could publish something as both a page and a post with themes?? hmm, perhaps its possible with themes, but I certainly don't have the knowledge to code that myself and I would guess quite a few users don't either.

Perhaps adding as a feature would just be a nice think to have.

No, luckily it is not possible to create a piece of content and give it both page and post status — these states should stay entirely distinct in my opinion, as that distinction is one of the most useful things in the WordPress ideosphere.

The Improved Include Page plugin allows one to inject the contents of an arbitrary page anywhere in your template. That means also on the frontpage. As far as I can see, this provides the functionality you're looking for.

This just doesn't make any sense to me. Would probably confuse the hell out of the average Joe.

I diagree with the theme idea...the original suggestion sounds like changing the internal WP gears and not something cosmetic like a theme.

To add my spin on the idea: you could "graduate" a dated post into a permanent and "timeless" page. This would be great for those popular posts that search engines keep kicking up.

However, this seems to be one of the fundamental problems with blogging: the most current post is the one on the top...not necessarily the best/most popular post. And since blogs have been around for a while with no sign of them going away the amount a visitor has to sift through to find what he or she is looking for is only going to increase.

Perhaps I'm off the mark entirely but I sense this is the next step in WP (and blogging) evolution and should be addressed at the fundamental structure level.

Closing thread since no traction on it for a year, and sounds like plugin territory in any case.
