I use a plugin for this could search static, but I agree this should be included anyway.

I do exactly the same as cpoteet, I add the "Search Pages" plugin into all my WP sites.
However it seems to have broken since WP 2.0.6 (I haven't looked at the code yet)
I think there should at least be an option in WP to decide whether to search everything or just blog posts.
I've noticed a few people mention "Search Everything", I'll give that a go next!
Please make this the default behavior, with a user-selectable option to also search comments.
The default search should search everything, not just pages, and it should do a better job searching. Include category titles, tags, content, title, comments, everything.
A way to organize the search results by category or type would be nice, too. It seems that MT already has this as seen on Jason Santa Maria's site and Bearskinrug. Both of those search results are organized by type, but organization by category could be just as useful.
Add to the list: search custom fields.
Well, if we're making lists...
More of my wishes for WP search:
A simple option to search pages would be great.
Use a plugin now but built in to WordPress would
be much easier.
Advanced searching options would also be good
but I would settle for just adding pages (and
perhaps comments) to the search.
This should be in the core default
This one definitely gets my vote!
This is great. Could be really nice if done Ajax style too with a live search rather than a new page load. Could have:
Post Matches
+ Match 1
+ Match 2
Page Matches
+ Match 3
Comment Matches
+ Match 4
+ Match 5
That would be sweet!
