Custom Attachment Type

    We can easily create custom post types but those post types using only article focused panels similar to "posts" or "pages". I believe we need media focused post types that similar to "attachment" type. "Attachment" post type have special panels that allows image editing, batch upload etc. This is really a necessary usage for "special" medias like portfolio photos. In my research, i see we cant use "attachment" post type's custom panels in custom post types at the moment. I think it wont be hard to let developers use those panels right?

    I like the idea of different types of attachments, not just separated by taxonomies. This is like a natural extension to Custom Post Types, Custom Attachment Types would prove useful. We don't have to build everything into core, but at least making it possible for someone to build a plugin that could do it w/o rewriting every part of core that relies solely on the string 'attachment'.

    The batch loading images can be very useful for many users of WP, and as you say unsalkorkmaz not seem difficult.
    I also give you my best score.

    I want to create a "photography" custom post type which uses attachment's same edit/upload panel. Exact same panels usage for "attachment" post type but with "photography" name. Is it possible?

    @John Stones

    That's what this is about, making something like that possible. It's not possible right now.

    Media Categories plugin allows users to assign categories (or other taxonomy terms) to items in their Media Library. Since WordPress 3.5 now supports attachment taxonomy, the work of adding a metabox to the attachment editor is happening entirely inside of WordPress.

    Yes, that's also useful, but that's not what this is about, it's about separate entities, not just tagging/categories.

    When I find the ideal solution seeking alternative oltra, maybe you could put the image on the home page to inform your regular visitors, but also you can send the notification via email if they subscribe to your newsletter.

    It is not the best solution but it can help
