Configuration of page layouts for each post type

TwentyElevn allows the administrator to specify the "default layout".

I propose that an update to the theme allow administrator to specify the default layout by post-type.
    e.g.
    Default layout for pages
Default layout for blog (page with posts?)
Default layout for posts (single posts)
Default layout for archive pages (categories, tags, search results, archives etc)
Default layout for custom post type 1
Default layout for custom post type 2
    etc

As you will notice in the example above, I am proposing that the theme "read" which custom post types are available, and list them in theme options so that a default layout for each can be chosen. This will be immensely helpful for users of custom posts...

Themes can already do this. It's up to them if they want to.

Well, I am suggesting that the packaged theme should do this and set an example.

In all fairness, it can be argued that setting default layout at all is something any theme can do, so why have it in TwentyEleven..why not stick to one simple boring layout? But no, TwentyEleven does permit selection of default layout. All I am saying is it should be alightly extended to permit selection of default layout by post type.

TwentyEleven won't. Don't expect it to undergo massive changes. The 'default' themes are meant to be fairly straightforward to get people started, not include everything.
