    Justin, what do you mean by "hackish way"?
    I would love the term meta table though. An step closer to WP as "what you want it to be"!

    Exactly the way your plugin handles this feature.

    Don't get me wrong; it'll work fine if you're only using it for a few categories. It's how I'd code it with the current database structure in WordPress. But, when you start talking about 1,000s of terms from multiple taxonomies, it's not an ideal solution at all.

    It's more an issue of data structure than anything. Until a term meta table or alternate solutions are provided in WP core, we'll be stuck hacking the system to do odd things like this.

    Chiming to say that this would be a useful feature in core, whether it was implemented as a taxonomy meta field or not. Currently I implement this kind of functionality in my themes as options, but it's not ideal.

    If I'm understanding this correctly, the proposal would create for WP the capabilities of "Views" in Drupal.
