I'd love to see a built in, AJAXy, WYSIWYG template editor, for easy customization.

Frankly, I think it would a horrible, resource-hogging thing to implement. One of the strongest points about WordPress is its lean and flexible core and I feel that would be compromised by this. Could be implemented as a plugin, though.

While I can appreciate the convenience and relative ease, there is little real need to be able to edit templates in this manner. Additionally, the potential security risks involved with any editor which can directly affect files on your website are very real, and ultimately not worth sacrificing peace-of-mind for.

I was looking for something very similar to this idea and like it a lot in fact. I wanted to create landing pages with my WP blog and be able to create and edit templates for them easily, like with Blogger's template editor. This would be a huge step forward in that direction. Besides, if you get tired of or just NEED a new design element (extra testimonials box, featured item etc), and don't want to have to buy or find a whole new skin/theme...

Two thumbs up and five stars for this great idea. Offering it as a plugin might be a good option too. (As well as the ability to use it just for pages, or to create a template that you could select when making new pages...

I've been around web development since the webs inception in the 90's but I'm one of those people who know more about content than the behind the scenes stuff.

I understand it and I can read it and manipulate it but to be honest my time is better served providing content ot my readers than scripting.

All I want to do is quickly set up templates for my catagories for my authors.

Great idea hope it comes soon...

In theory I see this as a good idea, as long as its not a 'resource hogger'. I think though maybe a few variables that you can edit/alter would make a very basic template into something unique and personal. A simple way for someone to set the wrapper to fixed width or liquid, set a minimum or maximum width, or change a two column into a three column would be cool. Insert header image tool plus edit the site colours too..

I customised my template, but can see the virtue of this.
