blogroll updating

I use my blogroll for a dialies/aside type usage and when I add a new link it'd be great if I could just show x number of links with the newest at the top and a set number on my sidebar, the rest showing in the rss feed.

In other words if I have my sidebar set to show the 6 newest posts currently if I add one I have to turn the visibility off for one of the others and then it'll show up. Not the quickest way to do things. Something similar to del.icio.us would be of far more use to me (especially since I wouldn't have to use a plugin to do it.

I know this *used* to work back in the 1.x series somewhere. Seems like it vanished after either 1.5 or 2.0, but until recently the Links UI still made it seem like an available feature. The Update Linkroll plugin didn't work for me, either. Eventually, I just dumped my blogroll altogether.

Perhaps you could talk to Carthik about re-releasing the Update Linkroll plugin for 2.1?

There are a lot of recent article widgets.

Not recent article. I want the blogroll to be able to auto show the last x number of links added to it. rather than having to manually deactivate/activate links each time I add them.

Sounds like theme/plugin functionality to me. Why should this be added to the core?
