WP 2 has a nice feature that allows the the blogger to allow to organize their uploads into month and year folders, but you can't do only year for example, but that has been what I have been doing since WP 1.5.

Even with the upload manager in WP 2.1 I think it could be better.
Like having a media/upload manager. I mean To be able IN ONE PLACE to upload/erase files in directories and sub directories, create/delete directories, browse through this, generate thumbs if needed when I want (for images uploaded via FTP for example), be abble to call this manager from the menu Write in order to include photos, music, films, files, ... with some basic functions like adding a class, size, positionning (Float, top, ...).

Definitely improve the upload manager. There needs to be an easier way of adding custom classes and id's to the image without having to go into the code editor.

A better media/upload manager would be very much appreciated! I organize my posts in categories and would like to do the same with my media files. I wouldn't be able to find anything if I organize them by year and month without looking at a post where I used the file. But putting all uploads into one folder isn't really an option either.

So at the very minimum the upload manager would need to recognize folders in the uploads directory and let the user browse these folders (then retrieving all attachment posts for the current folder). Even better would be an option to rescan the uploads folder so that media is imported into the post table that the user uploaded to the server via FTP or WebDAV or whatever.

    I agree!
We need better upload manager - place where I can create/rename/delete directories/files.

Additionaly I wish I could choose definied earlier directory where to save durinig upload on Post Creation page.

Currently, uploads don't seem to have "owners". Anyone user with the "upload files" capability can view, and delete, all uploads in the Upload manager.

I use WP to run a club website, where any member can write posts, and upload files. Although I can prevent them from editing or deleting each others posts, I can't stop them from deleting each others uploads!

There needs to be an additional level of security - for example a "manage all uploads" capability. Users without this capability would only be able to manage their own uploads.

Besides all said, like categoryzation, permissions, it needs to be searchable inside the upload manager when you write a post.

Let's say I need to add an older image I've used before to a new post. The actual system requires to know the exact url of the image or browse through the uploads, but can't be searched efficiently.

    Great idea!!

I definitely would like to see the upload manager improved, esp. when in the page/post editor.

Handling of image thumbnails is not very versatile -- I especially don't like that only a few thumbnails show in the "browse" window at a time. If you have lots of images in a folder (for a gallery, for example), you might have to browse through 12 "pages" to see them all before you find the one you want.

Would like all of that to be a little more customizable -- for example, be able to specify how many thumbnails to show per screen.

In general, it's not all that easy to navigate folders of uploads, and this is an area that could be improved a lot.

Love WordPress, by the way -- hope it keeps on improving!
