Custom post types do not have a proper archive page, neither they can be searched by the current WordPress search.
They need more support from WordPress developers before the users can actually use them in their sites. The same applies to the custom taxonomies.

Yes, they can. Use the exclude_from_search argument.

Would you explain a little bit about exclude_from_search argument?
I search words on a website I am working on and all it shows as results are the posts not any Custom post type.
About the archive page for Custom post types: is it fixed in the newer versions of WP?
