Admin Reply to comments

I wouldn't mind having some 'official' way to reply to comments, so that it doesn't effect the comment count, and so that it's clear that the owner of the site is making a reply to so-and-so's comment.

  2. This is more theme dependent than core I think.

In your theme's comments.php, a simple check to see if a user is an admin or not and then applying a different CSS class to the comment is what most people do to accomplish this.

Plus if we were to add it to the core, it'd really only be able to affect the default theme and not other ones I think.

I think if the admin replies to a comment that the person commenting should receive a reply by email to sort of keep the "conversation" of comments going, if in case the commenter doesn't know that the admin replies to comments. I've always liked this idea, and hope it gets actualized. What I just do is when I receive notification of their comment I just email them back with my reply, which kind of sucks.

Viper007Bond - This is true, but I want a more official admin reply that you can do through the admin panel, and that doesn't count as a real 'comment' (the comment count doesn't go up or anything...)

I like the idea Brigitte mentioned about emailing when there's a reply to a comment.

there is a plugin that allows commentors to subscribe by email and get notified on any new comments on that particular post.
I think thats enough, if the person wants to be notified, they will, if not, they wont.

I've thought both of these suggestions would be awesome for ages:

    1) A 'reply to comment' where your reply appears indented underneath the comment you're replying to, instead of as the latest comment.

    2) Where the commenter recieves an email (as they leave their email address) notifying them of a response to their comment, unless they uncheck "notify me of responses to my comment".

I don't see why this isn't already implemented.. it's so basic for all commenting systems!

This would be a great feature, IMHO, as when using PagedThreadedComments, there's absolutely no way to make the CSS classes for admin replies work properly:(

Man, I am begging for a solution to allow my comments (ADMIN COMMENTS) to appear as a different color than a normal users comment. I have tried all sorts of solutions that I have found on the forums and nothing seems to work. Someone at least post the correct code for wordpress 2.3 so we can add it to our blogs
