Add custom fields for comments

    Currently the comment fields are restricted to the following only: Name / Email / Website / Comment.

    It would be nice if wordpress allowed the website designers to create additional comment fields such as:
    Name / Email / Twitter ID / Website / Age / Country / (other CUSTOM_FIELD) / Comment

    I was informed (thanks @jeremyclarke) that there is a way to do this using add_comment_meta() - but this requires a lot of back-end coding work which may be out of the reach of newbies. I also understand that this will not be included in 3.0 yet (sigh).

    I could not find any plugins to do this (there are lots of plugins that can add custom fields to posts, though). A good CMS/blog should have an easily-modifiable comment system, to complement the excellent post system.

    Would some kind soul like to create a plug-in that would help us add custom fields to our wordpress comments?

    Thanks!

    is this going to happen in WP ever?
    The website above is not really a "plugin" - it's a code hack for WP and most beginners won't be comfortable following those instructions. Anybody, a plugin? Please?

    Come on WordPress, put this in 3.1.1 please? It's been 9 months, this has the most supporters for the comments' idea section, it's really not that hard to incorporate into WP, and it would be a great extension of a powerful blog tool to make it closer ot a CMS.

    Hi, I've found two new free plugins (released in 2011) that let you add extra fields to the comment form:

    - Custom Comment Fields
    - Custom Comment

    Just tested and both are working in WordPress 3.1.1. The code of the first is more polished, but the second has more features (set as required, see field values at backend).

    To insert the extra field value in the comment listing, edit your comments.php theme file to add something like:

    get_comment_meta($comment->comment_ID, '_iti_ccf_post_YOURFIELDNAME', true),

    For the second plugin, the prefix is Cuco_:

    get_comment_meta($comment->comment_ID, 'CuCo_YOURFIELDNAME', true),

    Hope it helps.

    Any joy with this Gaurav Aggarwal? It would be ideal if the additional comments would allow for a drop down menus and radio buttons also
