I need subscripts, superscripts (for footnotes) and clean basic lists and tables (for key-value pairs such as events and event dates, names and assigned tasks, events and participation cost...). I want full justification as the "flying" text block border sometimes looks ugly, sometimes good.
All this is possible with TinyMCE plugins.
I would also like some *toolbar customization*
(editing scripts is so cumbersome)

Just want to add that the new version of WordPress (2.1) is great so far but it includes a new version of TinyMCE which is completely incompatible with my previous hacks. I spent an hour on the Tiny website and could not find anyone who knew how to alter the buttons in the latest version of WordPress.
We really need to be able to at least turn on and off the buttons which are already included with Tiny. The "styleselect" feature is hugely useful for anyone who knows a little CSS, allowing you to add span tags that will float your pictures, change your font size, all sorts of things. Also, I agree with the person above who noted that the table button would come in very handy on occasion.
Now more than ever, we need access to more Tiny power.

The only thing I like about Drupal is its TinyMCE plugin, which allows you to configure buttons and features available on the editor, and even give different usergroups different features all from within the Drupal interface. I understand that you can edit WordPress's TinyMCE configuration by editing the appropriate files, but a more user-friendly version would be great.

You guys know about the Advanced Toolbar in WP2.1 that pops up when hitting ALT+V (IE) or ALT+SHIFT+V (Firefox)? Lots of formatting options there.
I second the wish for more easy customization of the TinyMCE toolbars though. Something like Drupal's implementation (where you can simply should which buttons show up where on a per-button, per-toolbar basis) would be superb. (Edit: Ah, I see that AdamBradley above also has tasted the Drupal TinyMCE sweetness.)

codeispoetry - WHAT... 'Advanced toolbar', no I didnt know about it and I think alot of other people missed that one - WOW!! Do you know how to get it to show this by default - this would sort 90% of people! No tables, but you shouldnt really be using them anymore anyway!
I have used all sorts of editor plugins, Editor Monkey (sandly long neglected, was excelent in the past), Advanced WYSIWYG Editor amongst others. I have also hacked it up a bit in the past, but it's real hastle when it comes to upgrading the core WP files and sorting the hacks again.
Some way of managing TinyMCE plugins would be great, or at least be able to re-arange the icons - I had a plugin that did that once, not usre which one, I think it was Editor Monkey.
WP rocks in lots of ways, but I think everyone would agree that the actual content editor leaves a-lot to be desired - especially for non-techie end users!

I would like to be able to add my own styles to TinyMCE - maybe through a plug-in page.
I would like to be able to define an option in TinyMCE so that there is a button that causes it to wrap selected text with something like <p class="thisclass"> </p>

I did some research to figure out how to customize the TinyMCE buttons in WP 2.1, including in order to make the advanced toolbar appear by default instead of having to press alt-v or some other arcane key combination every time.
