It's really bad practice to force people to open links in a certain way. There's lots of links out there about the accessibility issues with it. Never do this.

I always CTRL-click "View Site" to open in a new window... at first I gave this idea more stars.

However, now thinking about it, forcing the target of that link isn't a good move. It would upset everyone who's used to the current functionality.

Using a plugin would solve this - a simple piece of JavaScript to change the hyperlink's target. (It can be hooked against the "wphead" ID).

The people who want this in a new window can right click or shift + click. Forcing this behavior on all users is not reasonable.

This should be up to the user to decide, not up to WordPress (XHTML spec).

More hooks for the admin panel! It would take care of this kind of thing with plugins rather than having to edit the code manually.

I would edit the new window bit out. This is just my personal preference, but I hate anything that opens a new window without my permission.

Forcing a target for opening links is considered bad netiquette.

Users can always choose to do so if they want to, as indicated by previous commentors.

I think it is rather wasteful to have yet another query to do something as inane as open view site in a new window. I never open in a new window, and the admin panel has enough bloat already.
