How strange... I know I've had this problem on several sites in the past from various setups in version 2 iterations, up to the one I just tested on version 3.2.1.

None of them seem to have post_type=page as an option

version 3.2.1
/wp-admin/post.php?post=12&action=trash&_wpnonce=c838e6237c

version 3.1
wp-admin/post.php?post=4968&action=trash&_wpnonce=80f1f72727

version 3.0.5
/wp-admin/post.php?post=25&action=trash&_wpnonce=99f213b460

I did trash on an individual item, and it went to the pages page.

On three sites. What version of WP? I tested on 3.3 and 3.2.1.

Hmm... you're half right. If you use the bulk edit option "Move to Trash" it keeps you on the PAGES page.

If you click "Trash" on an individual item, it takes you to the POSTS page.

I just tried this on a clean install and with all plugins turned off.

Just tested on my site.

When I edit a page and delete it, I'm taken back to the pages list (/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page)

When I edit a POST and delete it, I'm taken back to the POST list. Same with all custom post types as well. I'd start with turning off your plugins, as that sounds like an issue with your setup.

Currently, whenever you delete a page within wordpress - the page is removed from "Published" and put into the "Trash" heading. You as the user, however, are redirected to the "Posts" page, for no particular reason.

When you delete a post, you are taken to the "Posts" page as well, but you were working there anyway - so it makes sense.

Being redirected to a completely different section of the backend can be really confusing if you don't know what's happened.

It's a small issue, sure, but it's something that you always forget about until it happens the next time, and it would just be generally quite nice if it made more sense.
