There are multiple page management plugins, as well as multiple threads about this in Ideas. Closing this thread as dupe. FYI, better page management is being worked on for core.

It would be great if in the "Manage Pages" (in admin) the user be able to both:
a. Hide/Show pages,
b. Change the order of the pages.

There are plugins for both of these purposes, but I wish they were part of official WP because they are so essential to have. The plugins can be found here:

Page Link Manager:
http://gmurphey.com/2006/10/05/wordpress-plugin-page-link-manager/

MASS EDIT PAGES:
http://www.almosteffortless.com/wordpress/mass-edit-pages/

There is also a plugin for managing posts more effectively but I couldn't make it work for WP 2.3:

This is important because right now if you don't want a new page turning up in your list of pages you have to dive into your template to manually exclude it.

Not sure whether another checkbox in the admin is the right way to go, though; a lot would be improved if
wp_list_pages
had an
include
argument instead of only an exclude.

Note that a workaround is to make the page a child of a page that is excluded from the list already.

In the Admin panel management section for "pages", have a check box next to each page to optionally hide it from display as a more generic alternative to:
wp_list_pages('exclude=

With such a feature, I wouldn't need to hardcode excluded pages in my templates.
