Threaded comments are included in core as of version 2.7.

I just looked into wordpress today. I need to update a forum that I've managed that was written in Delphi 10 years ago. http://nobsys.net/finchforum.html

I think that is a very well designed tree view form using frames so to replace it, I at least need some kind of comment threading.

You Couold add some plug-ins to wordpress like "limit post Autamatically", Gravatars, Sidebar Login. you could put the log in form in the index page and when you are loged in, your ravatar apear in the sidebar.
It will be awesome if in the register form you have to put the password you like.

Threaded comments are a 'must have' for me. Especially on posts with a lot of comments, a single threaded comment list becomes more and more unreadable.

I'm using plugins for threaded comments and paged comments right now. However, it's an either or decision at the moment.

I would appreciate a threaded/paged comments function in the Wordpress core.

I'm with ozh on this one. I'd rather see more spam than captchas. Plus, I believe threaded comments gets pretty ugly and unruly sometimes. This should definitely be left to plugins.

Captchas are the suckiest thing in the whole internet. I'd rather see more spam and less captchas than the opposite.

This is something I feel is really lacking from Wordpress. I have a threaded comments plugin, but it does not email the commenter or admin when comments are left. I need both.

Lack of decent threading is one of the really severe drawbacks of web forums in comparison to Usenet news and mailing lists (as read with a smart enough reader -- like GNUS). I haven't seen a first-rate threaded reader system for the web yet, so it must be fairly hard (haven't tried to design one myself yet), but I think it would be a huge benefit to people using such forums, and a big boost for WordPress to have the best one.
