I also had a look at the tracker and it seems it will be added in the next release (I hope) but it would be great to have a plugin in the mean time to add this functionality.

It's strange that this wasn't solved a LONG TIME AGO as the bug was reported quite a few years ago.

Should be standard functionality really :)

It only runs on the full page editor (not the quick edit) but I could package it up into a plugin and look into making it work on the quick edit if anyone is interested.

Understanding that multiple users can create posts and you would not want someone to misplace a private link, perhaps these private pages can be called something else, like Member Only.

I am currently creating content using Private pages, however I noticed that I cannot select a private page when creating a new sub-page. It would be nice to have that ability so that I will not have to remember to assign the correct parent when I make the top-level parents "live".
