In the 'All Pages' admin view, sometimes it can be difficult to quickly identify the 'home' page if the title has been named something other than 'Home' for SEO or other reasons.

Would it make sense to somehow highlight that page for easy/quick identification? Row background color change, icon, something? Surely needs to be something subtle, but effective.

I mean you can customize your theme to show as many posts on any archive page you want.

You can do that with themes.

For example in my case I would like to have infinite scrolling for my categories and only one on the home page ( latest + sticky )

This has more to do with how your theme is coded.

There are still problems though. Some of the template variables still don't see it as the home page so some hacks are required. To really get done what I needed done I had to install some 3rd party plug-in, and I hate installing any 3rd party code that I then have to security audit and track updates to as well. I'll provide more info when I have a few spare minutes.

No offense, but you're way late on this one. Please see your blog's General section under the Settings tab. You are looking for the "Blog address (URL)", 4th option in 2.8

Described as:

Enter the address here if you want your blog homepage to be different from the directory you installed WordPress.

This works. After you make your page, put its link there. No problem! Good luck :)
