Incorrect assessment. WP doesn't build all of the best plugins :) anyone who writes the killer plugin for this can do so inside (or outside) of Automattic, and it would be appreciated.

The ability to translate is there, and qTranslate capitalizes it. But not all plugins are correctly building in the ability to translate as it stands (myself included, yeah, I know).

Yes, it has. but It will be more solid if WordPress will have it built in because other plugins will integrate their code with it.

Developers of plugins not always do integration with qtranslate and there are always problems.

Hi there,

I think one big miss in WP is a dead easy tool to migrate or duplicate a wordpress installation.

Totally useful for testing purpose, for clean domain change and backup!

There are plugins out there for the task, but i haven't still found a really functional one!

When I enter a new post title like "My Latest Greatest Idea" the slug becomes 'my-latest-greatest-idea' and I type in my content, post it, and all is well.

7 months pass and I get another idea.

I then start to enter a new post entitled "My Latest Greatest Idea" and the slug becomes 'my-latest-greatest-idea-2' and I type in my content and post it.

I'd like the permalink area on the screen to turn red or orange or something to tell me that a duplicate title was detected and a -2 wart is being added.

Perhaps a note on the screen box says "Note: Another post has a similar title and the permalink was adjusted. <link>View the other post here</link>."

"Even if I trash the first post, I can't get the -2 to go away."

Our users find it frustrating when they see the -2 or -3 or -4 show up on their URLs and they can't figure out why. We hunt down the issue and it turns out the original permalink is on a post in their trash. Emptying their trash allows them to get a clean slug on the permalink.

Providing the informational box above will help alleviate this issue.

Coding this should be somewhat trivial. 1) Find the code where the duplicate slug is detected, 2) use that post info to assemble the cautionary note, 3) update the UI css and content with that note.

Thoughts?
Thanks!

It could be a helpful feature to detect if a new post has a title or slug identical to one already created, and instead of JUST appending a number to the slug, display a quick message alerting the user that there is already a post with that title. The alert could contain a link to the post so the user could quickly view the post and decide if they wish to continue with the duplicate, or discard it and return to the pre-existing post.

I have seen examples for either use case, there are often posts that are published periodically with identical titles, but when you are dealing with a large number of posts it could be really helpful to know if there is already a post in the system with that name.
