Hi ckruse,

You can do that with the Admin Menu Editor plugin. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/admin-menu-editor/ . It's really flexible - allows you to easily arrange all the menus and submenus exactly the way YOU want them by simple drag and drop. I love it.

Also (bonus tip here), the Pop Menus for WP-Admin plugin makes the submenu items magically appear when you mouse over the main menu items - no need to click the boxes open and closed. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pop-menus-for-wp-admin/

Some menu items, such as Media and Links, I rarely use. I'm sure there are other items which others rarely use, or use often. It would be nice to be able to order, perhaps via drag and drop, the main menu tabs in the admin panel.

I am referring to the Posts, Pages, Settings, etc.

In addition to that, some plugin authors sit there menu item at the bottom of the column, forcing you to scroll down to access the menu item, even tho it may be just as important as Posts to you.

That has been around since version two-point-something, we're almost at version three!

I really think this should be added to the core...
