The Pretty file links plugin is designed to be very easy to use, and even comes with built in styles for different set ups. You can see examples of Pretty File Links at http://www.SmartRedFox.com.

The plugin adds an extra option to the media uploader to make links inserted into the content look a lot more attractive. It can also be used as a straight shortcode, and can easily be extended with additional styles just by dropping the css files into your theme directory.
