With this plugin, you just have to upload your files by FTP to start collecting your download stats. The uploaded files are added to the stats database the first time they are requested. You can change this and only be added to database if the first request is made by the administrator, or not added in anyway.

Also, you can add the files in a bulk process from the files management page, where you can also add a title and excerpt to the file for your information (At this moment only title is showing to the user). To easy administrate the files, them can be filtered by folder in the management page and can be sorted by several fields (Date, Name, Hits and Title) and can be filtered by folder or status (Active or locked). Also, a file can be locked to prevent downloading it.

The plugin supports multilevel folders, so, you can organize your files in subfolders (any depth). All subfolders are scanned when a bulk add is performed.

Hits are not counted for users who can upload files. (Those with upload_files capabilty, by default administrators).

Roles and Capabilities

• User must have upload_files capability to manage files. By default administrators.
• User must have manage_options capability to change plugin options. By default administrators.
• Hits are not counted for users with upload_files capability. Those who can manage them.

Usage:

After uploading the plugin you must configure it in the Settings Page, select the folder where the files reside (Relative to your WordPress root), and the custom download URL if you’re using permalinks.

Just add the link to file anywhere in your post: no tags to add it, just add the link to file by using the custom URL.

Also you have the option to include some widgets in your sidebar. There you can select what to show (recent or popular files), and wich folder to show. You can have multiple widgets with different configurations.

Example:

Imagine you selected /files as the folder where your files reside and download as your custom URL.

You uploaded the file document.pdf to the /files folder and the file song.mp3 to the /files/audio folder. The links you have to use are:

• http://example.com/download/document.pdf for the first file, and
• http://example.com/download/audio/song.mp3 for the second.

If you are not using permalinks, then you can use:

• http://example.com/?download=document.pdf for the first file, and
• http://example.com/?download=audio/song.mp3 for the second one.
