The idea of integrating it into the "add image" popup originated from WP Shi-Painter (http://blog.yakumo.la/?page_id=13). The entire site's in Japanese and there's little documentation in his plugin, which forced me to look into wordpress's core files to figure out the integration. Still, credit to Yakumo for the idea. I don't know if he has a wp.org username, but if he did I will add him. Please let him know.
Information on the applet itself can be found here: http://www.chibipaint.com
I tried to make the plugin as intuitive as possible (outside of the applet itself) based on the limitations of the applet. For example, if an image is specified for the applet to load, canvas size is ignored. The template feature includes the ability to load layer (.chi) files.
The naming convention for the files is based on the unix timestamp and two prefixes, depending on the choice made during file save. "cbp-" means the file was only saved as png while "chi-cbp-" means it also has an accompanying layer file (saved in the src folder in upload/YYYY/MM/). The Manager only pulls entries that has the chi-cbp prefix. If you want to make changes to the PNG file, just load it through the post editor's "Add Image" popup.
