Search not only the body of posts and pages but also the title, excerpt, comments, custom fields, rather all fields.
I think I've seen at least four separate ideas for enhancing search. It's a shame they are not all combined into one.
Please, also search Optional Excerpt! Not only posts, comments, pages, links.....
I'm shocked it doesn't already and hope this idea isn't onerous to implement.
Yeah, the search should look at custom fields, or better, it would be great to search by customer fields - many people use them a little like categories (for example to list posts by country)... But they are not categories! Does that make sense?
Searching everything should be the default behavior. My Pages are just as important as my Posts and my comments, etc. Any fine-tuning (not searching comments) should be handled by a plugin.
WP searches the body of the text, as well as the Post Name. That's a lot! The frustration I have is that it then does not organize the results in a priority that is very intuitive.
I think search option must be tunable, so it won't cause a mess and a slowdown. If there would be no option to exclude fields from search then it is better to leave everything as is.
And post tags, please! That's the only reason I keep using a plugin.
i don't know if this is possible, but besides searching every field of posts and pages, i wonder if there was a way to add specific custom search for wordpress to include tags of the images used in the gallery, for example, at least for the most popular galleries for wp.
you have to admit, most people do not use default gallery.
maybe it's the gallery plugin creator's job to integrate the picture tags somewhere where they can be searched by the search engine. but where?
maybe you could add something like "add custom area to search" with possibility to type in the table the gallery uses.
i'm not much of a programmer, but i really think a lot of people would like that.
i know i would. i keep an architecture site with wp and i had to duplicate all tags from gallery to the pages i use to display them. that's, i think, contrary to wp philosophy, right? you should not do things twice in here. that's why you use cms in the first place (i know wp is not a proper cms, but it worked for me. and it does a good job).
on the other side, i'm pretty happy wp exists and i wouldn't complain if it never got better. because of it, i was able to build my own site and manage it and tailor it to my needs and to my please. without it, i would have to pay someone to put a br where i wanted one, right?
thanks just for being, folks!
you make me feel proud and good about myself just for being a regular wordpress user.
