New "Manager" role between Editor and Admin

In almost every project I do, I wish there were a role that could create/edit/delete all content AND manage menus and widgets. Other roles this might person have would be add new users (but maybe not delete or change roles), moderate comments.

The real-world case for this role goes as follows:
A technical admin installs WordPress and then manages plugins, themes, and settings.
An editor creates and edit content.

The problem case is when an editor creates new content but then cannot add it to the menu! Similarly, managing widgets is often closer to content management than site administration. Comment moderation is the same, and even user creation is sometimes more an editorial duty.

Having this role would make my life better along with anyone else who manages a medium or large WordPress site. I've talked with many other people who want this exact same role.

You should use a role-editing plugin such as Members for custom scenarios such as this.

    Thanks for the suggestion, Justin.

I'm aware of the plugins and I could code my own role, but I added this particular role because I think this one in particular makes sense in core.

For any site with even a few editors, the fact that a user can only have access to widgets and menus if they also have access to themes, plugins, and settings just doesn't make sense to me.

I'm open to the possibility that I'm not thinking through this right, but I'll need to be convinced.

For most custom roles, it makes sense to use a plugin, but for this particular issue, it just feels like core to me.

I'd really love it for someone to make an argument against adding this specific role (or something similar) to core.

Hey Mark. I like your idea. I have a new project I'm working on right now where I'm looking at having to use the plugin Justin mentioned for this very reason. It's a non-profit with several staff involved in the website.

This makes a great deal of sense for core, to me. I could have used this intermediate role recently.

The plugins that are available solve this matter in a good way, I have no arguments.
