Instead of using plug-ins etc.
Yes, I was searching on the web for a multilingual blogging platform, and WP is the closest to the perfect solution.
Please, consider adding this feature as core.
(I voiced my opinion also here:

This is a good idea. I'm from Ukraine and my clients often want to have multilingual platform (at least 2 languages - russian and english). As for now it's a pain in the a** to get it running.
Native multi-language support, yes please! I build all my client sites on WordPress unless they need multi-lingual support. None of the of plugins are robust enough. It needs to be part of the core.
It would be great to have multi-language support as part of the core. I know guys at WMPL are working hard on their plugin (and I own a copy) but I think this should not be an optional addon to such a great platform. If money seems to be the problem maybe we could collect money (croud-founding) and buy the plugin from them. Not really an open-sourced approach but hey... whatever works to get this feature to wordpress.
I find myself hitting the wall many times and thinking about going back to CMS like Drupal where multi-language management is integrated into the core.
This is exactly what I am looking for as well. For example, I run a Forex trading website which I have translated into 5 languages. What I did is setting up five WP installations, each in its own subdirectory. This is far from an optimal solution, because I now for example have to update a plugin six times instead of only once.
I wasn't aware of the WPML plugin, which might have been worth a try. But for a future project I would love to see multilanguage support as an integrated feature of WordPress.
Use WordPress Multisite instead of 5 separate installs, at the very least.
Be aware, there is NO 'auto translation' tool that is as good as someone who can edit by hand :)
Forget auto-translate. We will be happy if WP can provide native WPML-like features
I recommend WPML (WordPress MultiLanguage) plugin thought.
