Integration of OpenID (openid.net) for comments and/or login.
Integration of OpenID (openid.net) for comments and/or login.
There do exist some OpenId plugins for WordPress:
http://verselogic.net/projects/wordpress/wordpress-openid-plugin/M
http://wp-plugins.net/plugin/wpopenid/#plugin_1686
http://wp-plugins.net/plugin/openid/#plugin_876
OpenID is a well executed and mature system, ready for adoption by large projects like Wordpress.
Proper integration, would be grand. I already use a plugin, but nothing beats official support for a key technology.
I agree with everything mxcl says. I would just like to add that openid is currently undergoing rapid adoption:
- many websites are adopting it
- openid support is a P1 requirement for Firefox 3.0, due later this year
These two things make proper openid support in wordpress a key requirement. Support means:
1) allow openid identities to log in for commenting and other wordpress functions (including admin).
2) be able to delegate to an openid provider so that the blog owner can use the blog url as an openid. I use a plugin for this currently.
3) be able to function as a openid provider. This one is optional and arguably the most challenging.
Wordpress is in a unique position here to massively boost openid adoption. I beg you, make the best use of it!
please integrate this.
wpopenid hosted on sourceforge works pretty good for me, I'm sure other users would be thrilled to have this.
I personally couldn't agree more - OpenID could potentially revolutionize the way blogs interoperate - WordPress should be a leader with it.

There's not really much I can say that hasn't been said already, apart from the fact that there's a 50,000USD bounty for OpenID. Come on WordPress!
saxsux: it's 5,000.

I'm trying to consolidate ideas :).
While plugins exist, something like this really needs to be built in so a multitude of installs that either don't or won't use plugins can still have OpenID enabled comment, at the very least.
It might also be nice if I could easily use my wordpress address as an OpenID URL
A bulk of openid should be in CORE. Especially the unobtrusive openid comments idea that was proposed by http://www.intertwingly.net/blog/2006/12/28/Unobtrusive-OpenID (I think).
Adding delegate and server links seems like something that should be done by a plugin or theme.
And making wordpress a server seems outside the scope of CORE. But might make a keen plugin or extension.
Ciao!
Why is it still marked 'under consideretion'?
thank you very

Thnak you..
The other idea thread for this suggestion has already been closed, curious that this one is listed as under consideration?
Don't bloat the core code with this, especially since there is a plugin available for those who wish to use it. OpenID is a horrible concept; do you trust your bank teller with your credit card and car keys at the same time?
If you do, install the plugin, don't force it upon the rest of us.
Hmm nice imformation
Thanks alot
